Motherhood

"Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children." ~ Charles R. Swindoll

Now more than ever our children are over-stimulated, between the television, Internet, and video games. There’s so much pressure within the school systems to excel academically. It’s a system that teaches children how to achieve but doesn’t teach them how to be. Now evidence is proving that yoga in schools (Mindfulness), can positively impact academic achievement. Here are some benefits of yoga for children, in school and beyond.

"In the end, yoga has less to do with what you can do with your body and more to do with the happiness that unfolds from realizing your full potential." ~ Rod Stryker

Nine years ago I was inspired by this beautiful yogini, Tara Lee, who helped me find and instil peace and strength during both my pregnancies. She radiates such calm and joy and I would always think to myself "I want some of that! How do I get that?" And it was because of her I was inspired to continue and explore yoga as a student and eventually teacher. It was an honour and pleasure to have spoken with Tara this week.  And it's no secret why she's notably "one of the top 5 teachers in the UK today" (Evening Standard). Through yoga, Tara is changing the experience of motherhood—and life—for women throughout the U.K. and abroad. For those of you interested in practicing with Tara keep reading for a chance to win one of her award-winning DVDs!

“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” - Sophia Loren

"Life is not merely being alive, but being well." - Marcus Valerius Martialis

Home sweet home. After spending ten days travelling from London to Los Angeles and back to Barcelona, I was inspired to re-post my top home healing tips published nearly two years ago to the day, as some family and friends are in a new home or about to move home while others just had a baby or pregnant with baby. I believe as parents, sometimes, it's easier to make conscious efforts for our son or daughter before we even think about doing it for ourselves. Every day as mothers or fathers we try our best in giving our children a great start in life. And hopefully from this parent awareness we can treat our own body, our temple, with the same respect and self-care as we begin living from the inside out.
